Do you really want a photo of my vacuum cleaner ready to go back in my car after doing its magic? Probably not; so don’t look. But today is the day, and wonder of wonders, it has not taken me as long as I had anticipated. This place is pretty airtight, and anyway, how much dirt does one person bring in for 70 days of silence, solitude and simplicity, especially since I always left my shoes in the mudroom. So, as a start, this vacuuming is simply a one-time affair.
What more do I want to say about this cleaning? Not much. There are websites and blogs about keeping a neat and tidy house, but you’ll have to find those on your own. At the moment all I have to say about silence is that a vacuum cleaner is not silent, but you know that. Ah, but when I turn it off, the silence is intense and sacred. Of course I’m here in solitude, even as I vacuum; the solitude is palpable. Finally, as I implied, all things considered, the vacuuming is simple.
I just love that wherever I go and with whatever I do. I can make a case for silence, solitude and simplicity.
