Seen in a draper's shop in India: Life is love...Enjoy it~

Life is love…Enjoy it.

Now that is my kind of thought. A mantra I can I can live with, a suggestion I am willing to follow. When times are tough it may not be easy to find love, but I believe that if we look long and hard and not give up, we will. Whatever we believe becomes our reality, and whatever we believe, we come to enjoy.

Um, I wonder, does it follow that if I believe that life is hate, I will enjoy it?  Not enjoy as in pleasant, but it will take over my life. I have a choice, so I might as well choose love.

Seen in a draper's shop in India: Life is a duty...perform it~

Number 3, “Life is a challenge…meet it,” is still on hold, but something we come up. Meanwhile, I’ll tackle Number 4, Life is a Duty…perform it.

This is my least favorite, at least the wording doesn’t resonate. I don’t think of life as a duty, although clearly there are many duties that I have to perform. Duty feels like burden, which isn’t the way I look at what I have to do—tasks such as cooking, cleaning, getting the car serviced, going to the dentist, attending to others…. They are all part of my life, but they don’t define who I am or what I do. I know I’ve been fortunate in not being overloaded with obligations and duties that I’ve had to perform, but I’d like to add, “Life is a joy…grab it.”

Challenge revisited~

2/11/2015

I fear that my island hopping challenge to Islay, Colonsay before heading to Oban and on to Iona has failed. There are too many obstacles as far as Islay and Colonsay are concerned mainly because I don’t want to rent a car. Would you believe that it is only February, but the hotel within walking distance of the ferry is already booked? And besides, there doesn’t seem to be any public transportation on the island. I’m all for a challenge, but the reward has to worth it.

Not to worry, I’ll find another. In fact, my challenge at the moment is to finish the 12th (yes, TWELTH) draft of “Very Grateful” before I go to Italy on the 22nd (just 11 days away). Believe me, writing is a challenge but I am highly motivated to meet it this time.

Life is a Challenge ... Meet it. Truth Number Three from the sign in a draper’s shop in India.

The challenge I have chosen involves my trip to Scotland in June. I had planned to spend four nights in Edinburgh, a city I know and love, before going to the Isle of Iona for a week. That’s a great plan, but not much of a challenge. Instead, I decided to island hop, making my way from Glasgow Airport, to the Isles of Islay and Colonsay, to Oban and then to Iona.

The first challenge involves securing lodging reservations and checking ferry schedules so I don’t become stranded on a non-deserted island. Case in point: the ferry from Colonsay to Oban is only scheduled for Thursday. The other challenge awaits me when I arrive and put all my plans into action. Thankfully, I have ferry schedules and the internet to help me plan this intense, fast-paced itinerary. Just the perfect travel challenge for me.

All Paths Lead To Me

√ Life is an Adventure ... Dare it
√ Life is a Beauty ... Praise it

Here is the second truth from a sign entitled, “Seen in a draper's shop in India.” As I mentioned in my 2/2/15, my plan is to explore each of the 21 truths on the list. If I write one every other day it will take more than my original intention to finish in a month. However, I’d like to complete the task before I fly to Florence on February 22nd. Not realistic I tell myself.

Life is Beauty…Praise it

When I close my eyes, my first imagine is of snow, specifically the shadows of trees cast by the moonlight last night. Then I wander to the beauty of the hill of Mull and the beaches of Iona, to Fiesoli overlooking Florence, and God knows where else. It’s easy to praise the beauty of nature, but there are other beauties: smiles and other human contact, the arts, satisfaction of a job well done. The point is to take time to offer praise and gratitude, as part of faith tradition, or perhaps just in wonderment of the conditions in which we human beings can find ourselves.

Seen in a draper's shop in India: Life is an adventure...dare it!

The following, “Seen in a draper’s shop in India,” is quoted in The Mystic Vision; Daily Encounters with the Divine, complied by Andrew Harvey and Anne Baring. I have  posted it in 2013 and 2014, and now here it is again, asking to be presented. How universal it is!

There are 21 individual messages. What if I take a month to ponder them? That would be one a day with some grace time. I’m going to give it a try. I’ll pick something that I’d like to experience, write it up, and then give it a try. Here goes.

Life is an Adventure…Dare it.  I’m adventuring to Florence on February 22nd, which is isn’t a big adventure for me because I’ve been many times before. I know how to get there, I am comfortable traveling alone, I know the language, and I love the food. It feels like home. So what is my adventure? What do I dare do on this trip?

As un-daring as it may seem, this time I am renting a different apartment in a different area of the city. I’ve been tempted to sign on to my usual place, but something keeps telling me to dare the uncertainty of a new location. If I don’t take the dare, I know I’ll be disappointed in myself. Each trip, even to the same place, must be a new adventure.  On the same line of thought, I am going to dare do a little island hopping when I go to Scotland in June.
