But today I want to share with you the pictures of my outing to Rome Termini to buy my ticket for Tuesday’s travel to Assisi. If you have read my blog for a while, you may recall how much I love airports. Well, not far behind is my love of train stations, which are far from a dying entity in Europe. Train travel is one of the major ways to go in and each station has a particular character and name of its own (in Florence it’s Santa Maria Novella). Today it was Rome Termini.
My pictures don’t do justice to the throngs of people on a travel mission on a given day. Rome Termini is always crowded; if you want to consider solitude, well, forget it. As for silence, it doesn’t exist. But there much to be said about simplicity once you understand the procedures. For example, I purchased my ticket at one of the self-service ticket machines. I couldn’t go wrong from first touching “English” on the screen, to paying (I chose cash instead of credit card), to retrieving my ticket.
