So why eerie or lonely, you ask? All a feeling brought on by the cold and raw foreshadowing of the impending blizzard. The houses felt uninhabited, abandoned, lifeless, not a light shining. The occasional car that passed by seemed to be on a mission to avoid what was to come. A gloom and doom feeling.
And then the mood changed. I stopped in to visit with a neighbor, and as I left his house, the first flakes were in front of me. People were out walking their dogs and we exchanged weather pleasantries (yes, pleasantries). There as a feeling of solidarity. The houses weren’t abandoned or uninhabited any more; lights were on. The storm was beginning; life had returned, a life that didn’t feel lonely or eerie.
