|A Cottage by the Sea||
The other day I wandered along Via Romana to Porta Romana. The road parallels the Boboli Gardens and right when you reach the old Roman gate to the city, you can take a left into the grounds of the Institute of Art. Having just read Dan Brown’s Inferno, I knew there was no way from there to enter the Boboli Gardens short of jumping a fence, so I sat and enjoyed the park grounds in front of the Art Institute’s building. It’s a lovely spot although quite unkempt. According to Brown, this was site of the Medici stables. The actual stables run perpendicular to the main building, which at the moment is under major renovations. But the land is just the right place for dogs, bicyclists, people who want to picnic or just have a chat, and who don’t want to pay the entrance fee to the Boboli. I sat and wrote for a while and then, thanks to my Amici degli Ufizzi card, which gives me unlimited access, I walked over to the Boboli, and wandered about there for a while.
