A few days ago I posted some pictures of the Bardini Gardens. Today I offer some of the Bardini Museum. To be honest, I ventured across the Arno to this museum today to take advantage of the “Sunday at the Museum.“ initiative. On every first Sunday of the month all state museums in Italy are free. Wow, you should have seen the line at the Uffizi! No lines at this gem of a museum.
Stafano Bardini was an art trader and prolific collector during the second half of the 19th century. (I’m reminded of the Isabella Stuart Museum in Boston.) As the museum brochure states, “In his legacy the ‘prince of the antiques dealers’ left his art gallery, located in Piazza de’Mozzi, to the City of Florence, along with his art collection of paintings, sculptures, carpets and various other Renaissance designed art pieces.”
